Title: Drug resistance in evaluating cancer

Abstract

Drug resistance is a well-known phenomenon that results when disease become tolerant to pharmaceutical treatments. This concept was first considered when bacteria became resistant to certain antibiotics, but since then similar mechanisms have been found to occur in other disease including cancer. To explore this topic a qualitative systematic literature review was conducted in in PubMed, CANAHL and Psych INFO a total of 3294 papers were identified and 48 articles selected and included in this review. The synthetic of the papers resulted in in nine analytical themes being recognized, Cancer drug resistance is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by drug inactivation, drug target alteration, drug efflux, DNA damage repair, cell death inhibition, EMT, inherent cell heterogeneity, epigenetic effects, or any combination of these mechanisms. Very few review explicitly explored the epigenetic drugs of cancer patient during follow up and the review identified a lack of specific focus of understanding of epigenetic effect during follow up and not enough to collective epigenetic in this area and in this option need more research and study.
