A middle power in international affairs, Thailand was a founding member of ASEAN and has a very high Human Development Index score. It boasts the 24th largest economy in the world, the second largest in Southeast Asia in terms of PPP, and the 85th largest nominal GDP per capita in the world.

In the 2019 Global Health Security Index of global health security capabilities in 195 countries, Thailand is the only developing country in the top ten worldwide. It ranks first in Asia and sixth overall. In 2011, the entertainment sectors contributed an estimated $2.1 billion in GDP directly to the Thai economy.
