Successful single transposition flap covering double removals of nasolabial basal cell carcinomaand mandibular melanocytic nevus
Abstract
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a common skin cancer, while melanocytic nevus (MN) is a benign skin lesion. Distinguishing between the two can be challenging due to their similar appearance. Moreover, BCC can coexist with MN. Various flap reconstructive options, which can be selected ensuring the best possible results. The transposition flap described in this report has been developed to provide an additional and simple technique to reconstruct defects on left nasolabial fold and mandible. This case report describes an 80-year- old woman with two enlarging black lumps on her face, one on the left nasolabial fold and another on the left mandible. The lump on the nasolabial fold started bleeding and discharging pus a year ago. Clinical examination revealed two black nodules, one on the nasolabial fold measuring 2.5x1.5x1 cm with a central ulcer and rolled edge, and another on the mandible measuring 1x1x1 cm without erosion or ulcer. Muhamad Radyn Haryadi Widjaya is a doctoral program student at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia. He completed his specialist program in Educational Dermatology, Venereology, and Aesthetics at the age of 30 and has published over 6 papers in reputable Scopus-indexed journals, including 3 Q1, 2 Q2, and 1 Q3 journals.
