Cancer:
Cancer is defined as ‘mass of tissue formed as a result of abnormal, excessive, uncoordinated, autonomous and purposeless proliferation of cell even after cessation of stimulus for growth which caused it.
Oral Cancer:
Oral cancer is a malignant lesion recognized as oral squamous cell carcinoma. 90% of cancers that arising in the oral area are histologically from squamous cell. Oral cavitycomposed from the buccal mucosa, lips, upper and lower alveolar ridges, gingival tissues, retromolar area, hard and soft palate, and floor of the mouth. Oral cancer is the seventh most common malignancy in the world. In India, oral cancer is a major health problem of all cancers diagnosed. Early diagnosis and treatment remains the key to improve the survival of patients. The present review aimed to describe the essentials of early diagnosis, pathophysiology, and various conventional and advanced diagnostic techniques available. A review of the literature was done with a focus on oral cancer diagnosis and also critically examined the different tests. Moreover, this paper assessed the value of each test in spotting oral squamous cell carcinoma and also its precursor lesions. It is evident that despite consequent innovation in diagnostic techniques, the burden of oral cancer remains constant. A cost-effective oral cancer screening and awareness initiatives must be initiated to involve people actively in the processes of oral cancer screening.
